LMPD: Husband wanted for wife's murder in custody

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A husband wanted in connection with his wife's murder has been arrested in Tennessee.

According to Alicia Smiley, a Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson, Steven Zapata, 53, was arrested by authorities in Springfield, Tennessee Friday evening on a murder warrant issued in Louisville.

Police issued the warrant for Zapata after his wife, Tondelia Zapata, 62, was found dead inside the couple's apartment in the 5200 block of Sedge Court in Pleasure Ridge Park Thursday afternoon.

Louisville Metro police said they are not aware of any domestic disturbances between the two, but Lt. Todd Kessinger, commander of the LMPD Homicide Unit, said Zapata placed a call to a family member and told them something had occurred.

Records from the Illinois Department of Corrections show Zapata has faced several charges including a rape charge from August 1981 and aggravated battery/great bodily harm in October 1989.
