LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Residents at Guardian Court Apartments have a long week ahead of them. Several apartments were flooded during the weekend's flash floods.

Sunday afternoon crews from the apartment complex ripped out all of the flooring and base boards in the bottom floor apartments affected.

Tery Farrell said his neighbor woke him up in the middle of the night because of the water seeping through. When he stepped out of bed, Farrell said it was into three to four inches of water.

"It got worse at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning," Farrell said. "I didn't leave here until about 4 in the morning and it was bad."

Farrell is waiting for everything to dry so they can go through all of their belongings for mold and contamination.

"There's so much work to do," said Farrell, "and then when they get finished I have to take all my furniture out and scrub and figure out what stays and what goes."

If your home has been flooded and has been closed up for several days the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said you should presume your home has been contaminated with mold. You may recognize it by sight or smell. They suggest cleaning up and drying out the flooded home within 24 to 48 hours.

Residents at Guardian Court Apartments say the apartment complex has told them in three to four days they will come back in and put down new flooring.
