LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A mother hit three mailboxes and nearly hit a police car and a telephone pole while taking three children to a Louisville daycare center on Saturday, according to investigators.

Police say Matasha R. Alexander, 34, made a wide turn and drove over the curb outside the daycare at 4932 Poplar Level Road around 9:00 on Saturday. In the process, she almost hit a marked police car and a telephone pole, the arresting officer stated.

Another driver pulled up behind Alexander and told the officer Alexander had been driving all over the road as if she were drunk.

Alexander was allowed to check her children into the daycare.

Police say Alexander was acting disoriented and confused. Her speech was slurred and her balance was unsteady. She fell into her car as she tried to step off the curb, according to her arrest report.

Alexander told police she had taken two muscle relaxers and a pain pill before driving, and she admitted causing fresh damage to her car by hitting her mailbox as she pulled out of her driveway that morning. An officer went to her mailbox and reported that not only was Alexander's mailbox damaged, but saw were the mailboxes of two neighbors.

Police said Alexander was irate and threatening and refused to test for drug impairment.

She is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving and endangering the welfare of a minor.
