Man shot by police after breaking into occupied apartment

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man was shot by police early Friday morning after breaking into an occupied apartment in the Newburg neighborhood, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Officer Carey Klain said two people were inside the apartment when a man they did not know forced his way inside and began waving a weapon in the air. The victims eventually got away from the man and were able to call 911 around 4:21 a.m.
Several officers responded to the incident at Millwood Apartments on Huntington Park Drive off Poplar Level Road. One of the officers fired on the suspect, Klain said. He suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening. It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting. The suspect was driven away from the scene in an ambulance around 5:10 a.m. The ambulance had a police escort.
