LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two people are being treated after they were rescued during an apartment fire in the Russell neighborhood.

According to Haueter, a resident was awakened by a cracking sound and found the fire in the closet while looking for the source of the noise.

Haueter said the three-story building was divided into six apartments, housing a total of seven people. Five residents were home at the time. Firefighters rescued a woman from a third floor apartment and a man from a second floor roof in the rear of the building. Both were taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Metro Arson Bureau.
