Jeffersonville police arrest man in connection to shooting

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Jeffersonville police have arrested a man in connection to a Wednesday afternoon shooting at the Beech Grove apartments.

Carlos Ortiz, 24, is preliminarily charged with robbery with a deadly weapon resulting in serious injury.

According to the News and Tribune, the man who was injured in the shooting told police that he and Ortiz got into a struggle after Ortiz tried to rob him. He said he was shot in the leg during the struggle, but managed to wrest the gun from Ortiz as another shot went off, missing both men.

Ortiz, who was arrested after fleeing the scene, denied firing the handgun, and said the altercation was the result of a bad drug deal, the newspaper reported.
