Two-story apartment catches fire in south Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Fifteen people are temporarily without a home after a fire damaged a two-story apartment building in south Louisville late Monday.
The fire broke out around 8 p.m. Monday in the 4500 block of Hazelwood Avenue, burning two apartment units and part of the building's attic. It took about 35 minutes for firefighters to get control of the fire.
No residents or firefighters were injured. The cause remains under investigation but it doesn't look suspicious, Louisville Fire Chief Greg Frederick said.
"We're working with the property owner to make sure (tenants) have somewhere to stay," Frederick said. "Obviously with the frigid temperatures, we want to try and get them out of the inclement weather.
The 15 apartment tenants were able to escape on their own. Many watched from across the street as 40 firefighters worked.
Several firefighters remained on the scene as of 11 p.m. Monday to check for hotspots.
