Apartment fire kills 1, injures 4 in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) - Two people suffered critical injuries and one of them later died after an apartment fire early Friday morning in Frankfort.

WLEX-TV, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, reported that eight units at the Country Hills Apartments on Schenkel Lane in Frankfort were damaged.

The two most badly injured people were flown to University of Kentucky Medical Center. Three other victims were taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Their identities have not been released.

The fire was reported just before 2 a.m. Crews were able to put out the flames within 45 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross in on the scene helping those who are displaced because of the fire.
