JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Coming soon to downtown Jeffersonville will be a new hotel, luxury apartments and beautiful residential homes all surrounding the Big Four Bridge.

Even on a rainy day, one thing is clear - this river city has new life.

Mayor Mike Moore joined project leaders to break ground on a new Marriott hotel, a TownePlace Suites. It will be located across from the Big Four, where Rose Hill Elementary once stood.

"It's going to be here for decades to come and you couldn't ask for a better view," Moore said.

Alan Muncy, owner of ARC Construction, is thrilled to be working on a project in his hometown. They purchased the property three years ago in hopes it would be the right investment.

"With the resurgence of downtown, the restaurants, the retail, the completion of the park and the opening of the pedestrian bridge, it just got better," Muncy said.

Construction on the $15 million extended stay hotel will start soon.

"The TownePlace Suites is a 90 room, three story building," Muncy said. "It is going to have primarily queen beds, singles and fulls for rooms."

"The restaurants and the shops that are down here are going to greatly benefit from this," Moore said.

In this area, commercial real estate is only leading to residential. Across from the hotel, plans are in place for a luxury apartment complex.

"We've got a developer who is going to put in high end first floor retail and three to four story apartment living above it," Moore said.

It will be complete with more than 100 public parking spots.

Next to the hotel at Colston Park, Schuler Bauer and Discovery Builders will soon get to work on seven to eight row style houses, similar to what you see in Norton Commons. Developer Pat Barrow estimates each will run $350,000 and up.

"We want people to come down here and set up roots," Moore said.

The TownePlace Suites is expected to be complete by April 1, 2017 just in time for Thunder Over Louisville and Derby.
