‘Louder Than Life’ welcomes thousands of fans
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Thousands of fans are excited to rock out and rage in the rain as Louder Than Life kicks off its four-day run. A crowd of festival goers quickly packed the Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Expo Center when the gates opened at 11 am.
“We traveled from Canada just to see Lorna Shore,” said Jordana. “Everyone is so nice in the lines. We are excited to be here in Louisville for the first time.”
A decade ago, the first-ever Louder Than Life was a two-day event with less than 40 bands. This weekend, the music festival welcomes 130 bands across five stages. Organizers estimate at least 180,000 loudmouths will attend. That’s more than five times the crowd size when it started.
“We have such an amazing community, the Loud Mouths,” said Chamie McCurry, General Manager of Danny Wimmer Presents. “They have been with us since day one. It’s a year round community that celebrates rock and their love for this festival. They are ready to come out and party, and rock with us. We are so excited to welcome them today.”
The big topic on Friday will be the weather. Organizers say they have been preparing to add extra drains and mulching areas. Fans say they won’t let the weather stop them from rocking.
“If it was flooding, I would be here,” said Kye, another Louder Than Life attendee.
Because of the threat of severe rainfall, organizers are allowing festival goers to scan out to go to their cars to change. They ask people to bring ponchos and other rain gear so they can rage in the rain.
Thursday’s headliner, Slipknot, takes the stage at 9:35 p.m. Tickets are still available for the Angel’s Envy top-shelf VIP experience.
