‘I can’t wait for this day every single year': Thousands show up for Louisville’s St. Patrick’s Parade
Over 52 years, the parade has become a tradition for many families across WAVE Country.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Highlands turned green on Saturday for the return of Louisville’s popular Saint Patrick’s Parade.
The parade has been hosted by the Ancient Order of Hibernians for 52 years. In those decades, it has become a family tradition for many in the area.
“We come every year,” Natalie Buente said. “We always have a blast. The weather makes or breaks it and this year it’s pretty good.”
The Buentes rent a house in the Highlands so the entire family can come and enjoy the sights and sounds of the parade. This year they even had room for some first timers.
“I live in Lexington, so first year coming,” Benjamin Buente said. “It’s been a great time.”
The St. Patrick’s Parade is a favorite of the Buentes because they get to witness Louisville’s good sense of community. That feeling was shared by many in the crowd, including husbands Larry Baylor and Troy Blair. Despite the sea of green, the couple managed to stand out because of their extravagant green outfits.
“He wore a kilt last year,” Troy said about Larry. “I mean we’ve just got so many (outfits) at home, it’s just crazy. We just mix and match.“
Both the husbands and the Buente family said they hope to see the tradition stay for many years to come and are ready for the 53rd St. Patrick’s Parade, which will be celebrated in 2026.
“I love Louisville. I love the Highlands. So it’s just part of my life, basically,” Natalie Buente said. “I can’t wait for this day every single year.”
