LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Authorities have released the name of a man was shot and killed in the Beecher Terrace public housing complex Wednesday night.

Curtis Toole, 22, of Louisville died at University Hospital after being shot in the 1200 block of Cedar Court. Louisville Metro Police say the shooting started with some sort of fight.

The death of Toole is the latest during a week of violent crime in Louisville that began when three people were shot and three more were wounded on May 17 in two separate shootings near 32nd Street and Greenwood Avenue in the Parkland neighborhood. Community activists are now looking for ways to put an end to the rash of violence.

"We as a community need to attack the guns," said Bishop Dennis Lyons with Voices of Louisville. "That's the weapons that are being used now to bring death to our community. If it was other weapons, if it was guns, if it was sticks, we would be trying to get the sticks out of the community."

LMPD detectives are still looking for the gunman in the shooting of Toole and the other unsolved homicide cases in the Metro. Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD Crime Tip Line at 574-LMPD (5673). All calls to the Crime Tip Line are anonymous.
