ST. MATTHEWS, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway is making a push to warn parents about the dangers of prescription drug abuse by teens.
Conway helped kick off this year's Keep Kentucky Kids Safe program during an event Monday at Trinity High School. He told the students that every family in Kentucky, including his, has been touched by abuse of prescription drugs.
"One in five of our high school students, according to the data, are using painkillers for an off-label purpose," said Conway.
Conway cited a federal study that says drug poisoning has overtaken car wrecks as the number one cause of accidental death in the United States.
