LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The two people arrested in the kidnapping and murder of a 19-year old woman have made their first appearance before a judge.

Todd Allan Byrd, 45, of Louisville, and Monica L. Mudd, 22, of Jeffersonville, IN, are each being held on $750,000 bond for the death of Meagan Hassler.

Hassler's body was found in a wooded field in northern Bullitt County near the Jefferson County line early on the afternoon of June 23.

Arrest reports Byrd and Mudd said Mudd went to Louisville Metro police detectives to confess to the crime. Mudd told them she and Byrd kidnapped Hassler, searched her for drugs, then shot her and threw her body down a ravine.

Hassler leaves behind a two year old son. There will be candlelight vigil tonight at 7 p.m. in Medora Park.

Records from the Kentucky Department of Corrections show Byrd was released from prison on April 12 after serving eight years and seven months of a 10 year sentence for a 2006 robbery conviction in Jefferson County.
