INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WAVE) - A naked pedestrian was hit by a car on Interstate 465 in Indianapolis Monday afternoon.

Indiana State Police said they were told by witnesses that about 1 p.m., the man walked into traffic and was hit by a 2003 Toyota driving by Carol Hoffman, 76, of Indianapolis.

When police arrived they found a naked man lying in the roadway. He was conscious and breathing and was being tended to by Good Samaritans who had stopped to help.

A preliminary investigation by ISP found that the man stopped his car on the right shoulder of the interstate for unknown reasons, exited the vehicle and began walking south on the shoulder, leaving a trail of his clothing behind him on the ground. Witnesses saw the man repeatedly flailing his arms and throwing himself against a concrete wall along the interstate and falling down while removing the rest of his clothing.

Police said he may have been under the influence of drugs at the time. He faces preliminary charges of public intoxication and indecent exposure.

The man was transported by ambulance to Eskenasi Hospital. Police said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

His name has not yet been released.
