Film wraps shooting in Portland neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Actors, producers, writers and crew members from all over the country hit the streets of Portland for several weeks shooting a film called Beauty Mark.
 
According to the writer and director Harris Doran, Beauty Mark is a story about family, strength and survival.
 
"Beauty Mark which is a drama about a young mother who's taking care of her 3-year-old son and alcoholic mother in the Portland area of downtown Louisville who finds out her house is condemned and they have to move out immediately," Doran said.
 
The young mother, Angie, played by Auden Thornton, only has $65 to her name and must ask the only person she knows with money, a man who abused her, for help.
 
The script is based on real life events and set in the Portland neighborhood. According to Doran, the cast and crew are constantly finding beauty and inspiration through the aesthetic of the neighborhood and in the people who live there.
 
In addition to Thornton, Catherine Curtin from Orange is the New Black, and Laura Bell Bundy from Hart of Dixie also star in the movie.

The cast also stars a Louisville local who is making his on screen debut. Jameson Fowler plays Angie's son. His mom said she was thrilled to get the call.

"Basically they were looking for a specific kind of child and then they found him in a data base and had us ask him different questions to see how he could talk," Tiara Fowler said. 
 
Fowler said her son has spent long hours on set but has made lifetime friends in the cast and crew.

As for some members of the cast, they said Louisville began to feel like home and the Portland neighborhood has a bright future.
 
"We love Kentucky. We love Louisville," Curtin said.

"From the second I landed, I said I feel like I am home," said Thornton. 
 
The team has hopes the film will make it into Sundance and plan to donate a portion of the proceeds to the Family and Children's Place. The movie is a fiscally sponsored project of the Louisville Film Society.
