BROWNSTOWN, IN (WAVE) - Police have identified the man whose body was found outside an elementary school in Jackson County, Indiana Tuesday morning.
According to a news release from the Brownstown Police Department, officers were dispatched to the school at 10:05 a.m. after a report of a possible body of a man on the west side of the building.

Brownstown police secured the scene and the school was placed on a soft lockdown. At no time was there an immediate threat to students or staff. Walker said the soft lockdown meant the 650 students could move around the building and continue school day, but no one was allowed to enter or leave.
Chief Tom Hanner of the Brownstown Police Department identified the victim as Earl D. Campbell, 38, of Austin. Hanner said where the body was located was on the other side of the building from where students enter.
Walker said parents notified by e-mail, social media posts and a letter sent home with students. Classes were dismissed at their normal time of 3 p.m.
Police have classified the case as an active death investigation. How Campbell died is not yet clear, but Hanner said his officers did not notice any physical trauma to the body when they arrived.
