Jeffersonville bank robbery suspect arrested in Louisville

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) – A man accused of robbing a bank in Jeffersonville on Monday has been taken into custody in Louisville, according to Jeffersonville police.

According to Louisville Metro police, around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to a Circle K located at 3rd Street and Lansing Avenue, near Churchill Downs, where they found the suspect, Benjamin Boswell, 50. Clerks inside of the Circle K told WAVE 3 News Boswell never made it inside the store.

The bank robbery happened shortly before 3 p.m. at the Your Community Bank branch at 2917 East 10th Street.

Jeffersonville Police Officer Robert Grinestaff, who was responding to the bank where the robbery occurred, was injured in a crash on the way to the scene around 3 p.m. at 10th and Main Streets.

According to police, Officer Grinestaff was clearing the street, making sure it was safe for other officers responding to the bank robbery, when a car slammed into his cruiser.

The jaws of life were used to remove Officer Grinestaff from the car. He was alert and responsive when he was taken to University of Louisville Hospital. A woman in the second car was also alert when she was transported to University Hospital. Her injuries were not believed to be serious.  

LMPD questioned Boswell. He has since been transferred to the Clark County Jail.
