Former church has future as apartments, offices

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It once held prayers and lifted hearts. But now a church will house the next generation in one Louisville neighborhood.
The church, located on Clay Street in NuLu, has new owners and a future as offices and apartments. The building is more than 5,000 square feet, more than 100 years old and will take some time to renovate.
Gant Hill and Associates represents the investors here in Louisville.

They said a couple based in New York City bought the property because they have ties to Kentucky and want to invest here - not just in apartments and offices, but possibly the arts.
The plan is for the building to be apartments and offices, and along with the streetscape project and hotel, they say it's all very good news for all of the area businesses. In fact, they argue there is currently not enough living space downtown for the people that want to live there.
Gant Hill and Associates Vice President Scott Howe said, "We're seeing kind of a second or third wave of investment in NuLu with the service tanks and weldings building, that's almost a half a city block that's available now for just under $9 million. You also have Hotel NuLu which is starting soon with construction, apartments on Clay and Main Street are also starting."
As far as the Nulu Streetscape project, Gant Hill hopes to have it started in the next few months, but it might take a little longer based on paperwork.
