LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A Louisville police officer’s dedication to the community lives on seven years after his death.

On March 29, 2017, Officer Nick Rodman responded to a call of shots fired. A pursuit for the suspect began, and during the chase, the suspect crashed into Officer Rodman’s cruiser. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Seven years ago, Rodman’s death left a hole in his family’s heart. To honor him, his family created the Nick Rodman Legacy Foundation.

Saturday, they hosted their 7th annual golf scramble. It’s their largest fundraiser of the year.

Close to 300 golfers came out to show their support for LMPD and honor fallen officers like Rodman.

“Support the police, support Nick, George and Ashley and others that come out and put their life on the line every day,” an attendee said.

Last year, the golf scramble raised $60,000 for organizations that meant a lot to Rodman.

“Golf has always been something Nick enjoyed doing. As we got older with kids, he couldn’t do it as often,” Rodman’s widow Ashley Rodman said. “We are from the South End. We used to live down the street from here. I feel like this event specifically it reminds a lot of us of Nick and who he was as a person. Getting people together to have a good time and getting to do this for the non-profit, it means a lot to our family.”
