Speed Art Museum’s new exhibit explores the meaning of ‘infinity’
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - To infinity and beyond, but what does that mean? An immersive experience at the Speed Art Museum is exploring the answer.
Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s infinity room takes people inside a large, kaleidoscopic space with mirrored spheres suspended from the ceiling and arranged on the floor.
Visitors start their journey inside the infinity room exhibit for 90 seconds. During that time, people are encouraged to think about the meaning of infinity or how they feel seeing themselves reflected hundreds of times.
From there, people go to the infinity lab that accompanies the Kusama exhibit. Guests can tap into their creativity, explore ideas of infinity and illusion, and build a community-created, evolving installation with reflective materials.
This presentation marks the first time that a major Kusama artwork has ever been on view in Kentucky. It runs through Jan. 12, 2025.
