LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) – A mom in Las Vegas is sharing her story about a rocking chair with a USB port that sparked and caught fire.

In February, Angelica Colletto was rocking her baby to sleep in her Babyletto Kiwi Electronic Recliner and Swivel Glider.

In a flash, the regular bedtime routine took a turn when the USB port on the chair began sparking.

“I look to see what it is, because it’s kind of like a cracking noise,” Colletto said. “There is a USB port that came with the chair, and I saw it sparking and then it kind of shot out a flame at me.”

Video captured by her nanny cam shows the fire start as Colletto sits in the chair with her baby in her arms. She’s seen struggling to get up quickly from the recliner and calls her husband in to help.

“I immediately went into a state of panic,” Colletto said.

Colletto said she purchased the Babyletto Kiwi Electronic Recliner and Swivel Glider from Wayfair. It was actually the second time she purchased the chair. She originally bought one for her first baby, and she loved it so much that she bought a second one for her second child’s room.

“I thought I would have a similar experience with the second one, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case,” she said.

After she shared what happened on social media, the mom of two received a message from Teddy Fong, the CEO of Babyletto.

Fong apologized and refunded her for both chairs, even though her first chair did not have any issues. In addition to an apology and refund, Fong said the company is completing an investigation into the chair.

Earlier this week, both of Colletto’s chairs were taken away by the company to investigate.

However, they took a little part of Colletto’s heart as well.

“It is rough actually; that is the chair I nursed [my baby] in,” she said.

A statement to KVVU from the Babyletto CEO read:

KVVU also reached out to Wayfair, who said in a statement, “We are actively working with both the customer and supplier to address this matter and are conducting a thorough investigation into the product.”

Colletto said she wants other parents to be aware of the chair and unplug it if you have the same one.
