Crews battle 2-alarm fire at vacant church community center in Parkland neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - After around two and a half hours, crews with the Louisville Fire Department were able to bring a 2-alarm fire in the Parkland neighborhood under control.

LFD said the incident started around 2:25 a.m. on Dec. 13 when crews were called to the 1300 block of Catalpa Street on reports of smoke in the area. There, they found heavy fire on the top floor of a vacant church community center.

The blaze was quickly upgraded to a 2-alarm fire, officials said. It took 49 firefighters, eight engines and four trucks to battle the fire, which was brought under control by 5 a.m.

LFD said no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
