Gary Clemons wins special election for Kentucky State Senate District 37
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Gary Clemons has won the special election for Kentucky State Senate District 37, the Kentucky Democratic Party announced Tuesday evening.
At the time of publication of this article, the Jefferson County Clerk’s unofficial election result report shows Clemons received 3,752 votes out of the total 5,178 votes cast.
Republican candidate Calvin Leach won a total of 1,297 votes, while Libertarian candidate Wendy Higdon won 121. The remaining eight ballots cast were write-in votes.
Clemons, who was the Democratic nominee in the three-way race, is an army veteran and president of Louisville’s chapter of United Steelworkers Local.
Clemons is set to be sworn in on the first day of the 2026 session in Frankfort.
