Suspect injured in officer-involved shooting after downtown foot chase
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/WDRB) - A person was injured in an officer-involved shooting early Sunday after a reported burglary and a foot chase in downtown Louisville.
Louisville Metro Police Assistant Chief Brian Kuriger said officers were called at 12:03 a.m. to a reported break-in near 5th and York streets. Two suspects ran, Kuriger said. One was taken into custody right away, while the other kept running.
Kuriger said officers saw the second suspect with a gun and repeatedly told the person to drop it. One officer then fired several shots, striking the suspect.
The suspect was taken to UofL Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, Kuriger said, and a gun was recovered at the scene.
“The suspect was an armed individual who was in the act of burglarizing residences,” Kuriger said.
According to LMPD’s Critical Incident Timeline, the officer’s name is expected to be released within 72 hours, and body-camera video is expected within 10 business days.
