LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A longtime tradition in southwest Jefferson County is coming back to life after it was canceled last year.

The Southwest Festival is scheduled to take place on Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sun Valley Park.

After 29 years, it was canceled last fall due to lack of volunteers. This year's festival will include the traditional car show, music by the Monarch's, kid city, health screenings, pancake breakfast, arts and crafts, a senior tent, food and more than 200 booths.

"It's a great day of entertainment and fellowship," Southwest Festival committee member Dana Delepierre said. "It's like a homecoming to a lot of people in southwest Jefferson County."

Councilwoman Cindy Fowler, who represents District 14, is a strong supporter of the festival.

Volunteers are still needed. To volunteer or learn more about setting up a booth, call Sandy Gentry 502-396-6075 or visit swcf-ky.org.
