CHARLESTOWN, IN (WAVE) – A cigarette started a fire that damaged several units in a Charlestown apartment building, according to investigators.

The fire was reported at Parkside Trace Apartments, located in the 3000 block of Harmony Lane, around 5:05 p.m. Friday, according to Charlestown Fire Department Assistant Chief Andre Heal.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal determined a cigarette in a flower pot on a ground floor patio started the fire. Heal said by the time fire crews arrived, the fire had spread to the second story.
